At the time of the interview, they were the Operations Manager and Director of South Essex Rape and Incest Crisis Centre respectively. Sheila and Lee set up the South East Essex Rape and Incest helpline as a women's collective in 1984. The organisation developed over the years to become South Essex Rape and Incest Crisis Centre (SERICC), which at the time of the interview was the lead partner for the Essex-wide sexual violence and abuse services, under the title Synergy Essex. Furthermore, at the time of the interview, Lee was also a trustee of Rape Crisis England and Wales and a regional representative for Rape Crisis England and Wales, representing the Eastern region. NHS/Key Workers graffiti mural near LSE campus

I was walking for exercise around London from Rosebery Hall towards LSE in late May and was struck by this graffiti mural by Bowen and Blackmore (London street artists) on the boarded up Sainsbury's close to campus. It marked a point in the pandemic in which many sought to highlight the importance of key workers just about two months after the lockdown began and restrictions were soon to be eased up a bit. The woman in the photo was one of very few people I came across.

Juggling in Covid-times

Due to home-schooling and nurseries being closed from time to time, pushing ahead with writing projects was often done in the company of children...who were not always entirely respectful of the tools of the research trade!

Global Security Briefings

Professor Paul Rogers' Global Security Briefings series was launched in mid-2001, exploring the potential for major security challenges from the global margins. Paul continued to share his expertise, analysis and commentary on security issues in his monthly briefings up until ORG ceased operations in 2020.

Strategic Peacebuilding Programme

The Strategic Peacebuilding Programme (formerly the Middle East Programme) was ORG's conflict resolution programme which sought to contribute to preventing, transforming and ending violence by changing how people think about and engage with conflict.
The programme used a methodology based in ‘radical disagreement’ theory to build the capacity of local partners to engage in strategic dialogue and brokered a series of Track II dialogues in Israel, Palestine and Egypt and between Iran, Saudi Arabia, Syria and other states.

Rustling nostalgia

I was on the way to school with a few friends from Bankside; it was one of the first in person classes we had. Having just arrived in London and as international students coming from different places, we were eager to retain everything we see in the city in our minds. Autumn is slightly chilly and the streets were rather empty because of the pandemic, but it was a unique memory that felt strangely cozy and poetic amongst the chaos happening elsewhere in the backdrop.

Remote Warfare Programme

The Remote Warfare Programme (RWP) was established in 2018, based around the Remote Control project of the Network for Social Change, which had been hosted by ORG since 2013. It was set up to examine changes in military engagement, with a focus on remote warfare (in which countries like the United Kingdom choose to support local and regional forces on the front lines rather than deploying large numbers of their troops).
