This Series features photographs taken by Professor Deborah James and Santu Mofokeng during fieldwork in South Africa between 1983 and 2003. Professor James, a specialist in the anthropology of South and Southern Africa, initially focused her research on migration and ethnicity, first in rural communities and later in urban settings.
