Also included are podcasts and recordings of panel discussions. The majority of this material was downloaded from the ORG website and transferred to LSE Library when the organisation was wound down. The collection also includes some annual accounts and impact reports (a fuller set of annual reports is available in the ORG analogue collection).

A collection of campaigning leaflets from the 1975 and 2016 referendums on the UK’s membership of the European Common Market and European Union respectively. The leaflets were produced by various individuals, political parties and organisations active during both campaigns. Together, they evidence the arguments that were presented to the public by campaigners and provide insight into public perception of the referendums at the time.

A collection of papers and publications produced by the Fabian Society between 1884 and 2009, including the Fabian Tracts, the Young Fabian pamphlets series and meeting minutes. These materials provide a record of the Society’s internal administration, as well as illustrating their political and ideological evolution over time. Founded in 1884, the Fabian Society is a prominent left-wing think tank which has had (and continues to have) a significant influence on the British left, most notably the Labour Party. The Society was founded with the purpose to "reconstruct society in such a manner as to secure the general welfare and happiness".

A collection of audio and video recordings of around 1000 public lectures delivered at LSE from 1990 – 2006, covering a wide range of topics relating to the social and historical sciences. The featured speakers are high-profile international scholars and policy makers with a broad range of expertise, including members of the LSE academic community and scholars from outside the School, as well as world leaders and other political figures, philanthropists, broadcasters, entrepreneurs and campaigners. Subjects covered in these lectures include economics, politics, philosophy, sociology, history, accounting and finance, law, gender studies, architecture, anthropology and the hard sciences.

South African Governmental Publications

A collection of official and administrative publications produced by successive South African governments between 1866 and 1986, including a series of censuses (1866 – 1968) and a series of reports on education (1882 – 1986). These publications provide statistics and time-series data on a range of topics, including demographics, education, employment, housing, industry, marital conditions and public health, as well as insight into the policies of successive South African governments before and after independence from British rule.

Hugh Dalton's Diaries

The manuscript diaries of Labour politician Hugh Dalton (1887 – 1962), including a report on the diaries from The Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts (1978). The diaries provide an account of Dalton’s life and work from 1916 to 1960, notably documenting his military service during the First World War and his service in government during the Second World War. Wider topics covered in his diaries include political issues, Labour Party issues, economic reform, trade, foreign policy and economic production.

Autograph Letter Collection

This collection contains letters of prominent correspondents dating from 1851 to 1975. They cover themes eg suffrage, education, medicine, women and the Church, literature, employment, temperance, scholarship, industry, travel and the art. Many of these letters were considered 'Autograph' letters by famous correspondents such as William Gladstone, Queen Victoria, Florence Nightingale, the Pankhursts, Annie Besant, Thomas Hardy, Keir Hardie and John Stuart Mill to name but a few. The entire collection is arranged into 30 groups either by themes mentioned above or by individual eg Constance Lytton, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson.

Women's Rights Collection: Journals. Part 2

This collection consists of journals which cover many campaigns for equality of rights and opportunities published after the First World War. Campaigns range from the right to vote on the same terms as men, to birth control, family allowances, guardianship rights, equal pay, and abolition of the marriage bar, to an equal role for women in the League of Nations. Journals, such as “Urania”, challenged gender and sexual norms.

A curated collection that focuses on the topics of pacifism and global peace, particularly during the interwar period (1919-1939). The collection draws upon selected archives and material from the League of Nations Union (LNU), the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) and the Fellowship of Reconciliation, including posters, photographs, papers, pamphlets, meeting minutes, annual reports, journals and ephemera. These materials detail the activities and ideas of those organisations and their efforts to work towards world peace.

Beatrice Webb's Diaries

The diaries of Beatrice Webb (1858 – 1943), including the original manuscript volumes and typescript copies with associated ephemera. Webb kept a diary from 1873 until her death in 1943, providing a detailed account of her life and work. Topics covered include the Fabian Society, the Labour Party, trade unionism, the suffrage movement, LSE, local government and communism, as well as details of Webb’s personal life, her marriage to Sidney Webb and descriptions of friends and acquaintances.

A curated collection of pamphlets selected from The Women’s Library and related collections, focusing on the work of organisations, reformers and campaigners who advocated for women’s rights and equality during the inter-war period (1918 – 1940). Also included are the perspectives of politicians, governments, and intergovernmental organisations, as they reacted to the issues raised by women’s rights advocates.

Women's Rights Collection: Journals. Part 1

This collection contains the journals of a number of suffrage organisations from the late 19th century to 1918. This includes the journals of suffragists and suffragettes, as well as religious, international and political suffrage groups, and anti-suffragists. Some journals continued beyond the passing of the Representation of the People Act in 1918 (e.g., “The Vote” by the Women’s Freedom League and “Jus Suffragii” by the International Women’s Suffrage Alliance).

A collection of posters drawn from four different collections held at LSE archives. The ‘Political and Tariff Reform Posters’ series includes a selection of political posters produced by various British political parties and the Tariff Reform League from 1892 – 1910. The ‘London County Council Election 1907’ series includes a selection of campaigning posters and papers produced for that election. The ‘British Labour Delegation to Russia’ series includes propaganda posters, papers, gazettes and newspaper articles collected by the Delegation during their visit to Soviet Russia in 1920. The ‘Russia Childcare Posters’ series includes posters produced by the Soviet Ministry of Health (Ministerstvo zdravookhraneniya) from 1930 – 1931, instructing parents on how to take care of their children’s health.

Women's Rights Collection: Annual Reports

This collection contains the annual reports of the first suffrage societies of the 19th century (e.g., the London Society for Women’s Suffrage in 1869). This includes reports of the branches of the National Union of Women’s Suffrage Societies, of the Women’s Social and Political Union, and of suffrage societies around England, Scotland, Ireland and Europe. The annual conference reports of the Women’s Freedom League continue until 1929.

Suffrage Banners

A curated collection of banners, originally created as part of the women's suffrage campaign in the UK. Many of the banners were designed by the Artists' Suffrage League for a procession by the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies in June 1908. This collection also includes the design album of Mary Lowndes, founder of the Artists' Suffrage League. Within the album are designs for banners (some with fabric swatches), posters and postcards. It includes designs by Mary Lowndes and other suffrage artists such as Mary Sargent Florence and C. Hedley Charlton.

The poverty maps, papers and notebooks of Charles Booth’s inquiry into the Life and Labour of the People in London (1886 – 1903), an investigation into the distribution of wealth and poverty in late-Victorian London. The most famous items in this collection are the maps, known for their street-by-street colour-coded display of wealth distribution throughout the city at the time. This collection includes both the printed and hand-coloured maps produced by the inquiry. Further topics addressed in Booth's papers and notebooks include industry and religion.
